Electricity grids worldwide are aging and increasingly unable to support rising electrification and the shift toward decentralized renewable energy, creating risks to reliability and energy security. Grid modernisation and smart grid deployment are expanding the supplier ecosystem beyond traditional utility equipment manufacturers to include engineering, heavy equipment, digital technology, communications, energy storage, EV charging, robotics, cybersecurity and data analytics providers. This broader value chain is being supported by record global grid investment, projected to exceed $470 billion in 2025, following strong growth in 2024. With distribution networks accounting for 93 % of historical grid expansion and transmission investment set to accelerate, opportunities are growing across more resilient, flexible and intelligent electricity networks.
