Industrial Policy To Cement MSME In T: Experts

CII, in partnership with Government of Telangana, organized a conference on Manufacturing Excellence called ‘Man’Exe 2014, here today. This is the eleventh edition of the leadership series on Manufacturing Excellence, which is focusing on Innovation and Sustainable Growth.

In his keynote address, Dr K Pradeep Chandra, IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Government of Telangana, sought Partnership between the Large Manufacturing Companies and Micro & Small Manufacturing Enterprises to strengthen innovative ecosystem in the manufacturing sector. “The Japanese system of “Just in Time Delivery” was successful by involving the vendors and service providers in the innovation value chain by the larger manufacturing companies. Similar mechanisms should be worked out in our State to integrate MSME’s in the value chain of growth in manufacturing sector”, he said.

The Special Chief Secretary pointed out that the Government of Telangana will be taking lot of initiatives through the upcoming industrial policy to strengthen the MSME in the state, some of which are – upgradation of skills in the MSME sector; incubation fund; training needs of MSMEs for technical and managerial requirements, setting up skill development centres within the industrial parks, besides many others.

Talking about the Research and Innovation infrastructure, Dr. Pradeep Chandra pointed out that Hyderabad has the advantage of the presence of large Research Institutions on one hand and the entrepreneurial mindset of many graduates and people. “In order to strengthen the Innovation ecosystem, the Government is planning to establish Research and Innovation Centre of Hyderabad (RICH) which would strengthen the interaction between research institutions, educational organizations and the industry to get the best results”, he said.

Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), & Commissioner – Industries, Government of Telangana, in his address during a Special Technical Session on ‘Telangana: The Next Big Opportunity’ shared highlights on the upcoming new Industrial policy of Government of Telangana and expressed that this policy will be one of the best Industrial policy in the country.

Harish Lakshman, Vice Chairman & Managing Director – Rane TRW Steering Systems Limited & President – Auto Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), in his special address opined that the manufacturing sector is not in the best of its health as it has significant bottlenecks pertaining to availability of talent, labour laws, besides others.

Hemendra Aran, Chief Executive Officer & Founder, Aranca, in his theme address, opined that Telangana has immense potentials in the manufacturing sector as it has got some inherent advantages that other states do not have. “Moreover the current Government is proactively making changes to facilitate and strengthen the industrial base in the state”, he said.

Earlier, Suresh Chitturi, Chairman, CII & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Srinivasa Hatcheries Ltd opined that the manufacturing sector must move away from the low cost manufacturing to operational Excellency and Competitiveness. “Telangana has a natural advantage to excel in the Manufacturing Sector”, he said

Vanitha Datla, Vice Chairperson, CII & Executive Director & CFO, Elico Ltd., delivered the Concluding Remarks at the Inaugural of the session and opined that women participation in manufacturing is important to achieve the target of 25% of manufacturing contribution to national GDP. The conference deliberated on the themes – Telangana-The next big opportunity; best practices from other states; and a panel discussion on innovation and sustainable growth in Manufacturing.

Ltd.; Sai Prasad, President (Quality Operations), Bharat Biotech International ltd; Thomas Nicholas Mitchell, Managing Director, Phenomenex India Pvt. Ltd; AV Rao, Executive Vice President – Projects, ITC Ltd – PSPD; DRSV Varma, General Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Solutions, Cyient Ltd also spoke. Some 150 delegates representing various manufacturing industries participated in the conference.
